About the Film:

Part of Japanese Cinema Spotlight 2015

Directed by Takahiko Kyogoku. Japan. 2015. 104 min. Japanese with English subtitles.

If Pitch Perfect had been animated, set in a Japanese high school and filled with sugary sweet original tunes, it might’ve looked something like Love Live! The School Idol Movie. Based on the anime series of the same name, Love Live! The School Idol Movie picks up where the second season of the anime left off, just as the third-year students of Otonokizaka High School are about to graduate. The μ's (pronounced "muse") are a school idol group initially formed with the purpose of preventing their school from closing. Much to their surprise, they rose to become champions of the school idol tournament, but now that their school is safe and graduation is imminent, the defending champions plan to dissolve. But some exciting news means that they must start preparing for another performance, one that will take them far beyond the school gates. With the clock ticking, how will the μ’s members get ready to perform the most exciting show of their lives?
