Honolulu Museum of Art

Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday event information

Celebrate the local artists and musicians in our community!

Activities end at 2pm, but the museum remains open free of charge until 4:30pm.

Handweavers Hui: Join members of the Handweavers Hui and follow along as they weave colorful designs.

Local Artists: Join local artists Lisa Shiroma and Lauren Trangmar and make art inspired by their style and practice. See Lauren's work on view in 21st Century Women.

• Wahi Pana: Meet some of the artists featured in Wahi Pana: A Sense of Place, now on view at the Art School. Grab a "Wahi Pana Activity Book" and head across the street to Thomas Square to hear mo'olelo about the park and watch, talk story, or draw alongside artists from the exhibition.

12:30-1pm: Listen to a beautiful slack key guitar performance by Aja Kauhiʻimakaokalani

10:15am: Lowbiscus—Listen to these local musicans play a little bit of Old Time, Bluegrass, and Folk music.

The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales: 10:30am + 1pm. Free. If you think life in the country is a walk in the park, think again! Directors Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert adapt Renner’s own acclaimed graphic novel into a delirious, delightful triptych of interlocking stories, with a pacing and visual spontaneity that harkens back to classic Looney Tunes shorts and slapstick two-reelers.

Enjoy our full-service Sunday brunch menu at the Café from 11am-2pm. Reservations are recommended.

Take a shuttle bus to the museum’s free Family Sunday at Spalding House in Makiki Heights for more Family Sunday art and fun.

The winner receives a Supporting Membership to the Honolulu Museum of Art ($120 value), and his or her artwork is posted on the museum's website and used to create the following month’s event brochure.

Congratulations to last month's winner, Sophia Noor Capili, age 9, from Honolulu!
