About this Class:

Photography's history dates back to 1839 when Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre (France, 1787-1851)  successfully transposed or "fixed" an image onto a plate. This survey class examines the development of the photographic process and defines pivotal moments in its history. In addition to lectures and slide presentations, students will have a chance to see, first hand and on site, traditional processes such as Daguerreotype, tintype, albumin prints, gelatin silver prints and cabinet cards. Students will derive a greater understanding and appreciation of the art of photography and hence, formulate a new paradigm and concept in their own practice.
